Coastal and Port Construction Solutions

Jetty and Pier Construction

With its technical staff, equipment, and machinery fleet, LCM ROTA Marine is fully capable of meeting the demands of port construction projects.

Selected projects include:

  • THY Do&Co Hatice Sultan Mansion, Wharf Structure Project
  • Kuzey Star Shipyard, Jetty Demolition Project
  • ZEYPORT RO-RO Jetty
  • IDO Harem – Sirkeci Ferry Jetty
  • Turkmenistan Turkmenbashi VIP Marina Project
  • Turkmenistan Polimeks Construction Sailing Club

In addition to these works, LCM ROTA Marine also carries out subcontracted works such as pile driving beneath jetties, shoring, sheet piling applications, and marine logistics support to locations that cannot be accessed from land.

Jetty and Pier Construction

Before any jetty or pier structure is built, occupational health and safety measures are of critical importance. In addition to these measures, all precautions necessary to prevent workplace accidents must also be taken.

How are jetties constructed?

Step by step jetty installation:

  • i. First, it is checked whether the jetty to be installed has a TSE certificate and is suitable for use.
  • ii. After the inspection, the stability of the ground is checked. If the ground consists of fill material or soil, improvement works are carried out.
  • iii. After the ground improvement works, the structural calculations for the jetty are prepared.

The personnel responsible for jetty installation must hold a Level 3 scaffolding certificate, and the structure must be assembled by qualified professionals. After installation, the jetty must be inspected by civil engineers and formally accepted. Jetties are used in many areas, including ports.

What are Pier Structures?

Jetty and pier construction projects generally consist of structures located inside or outside the port area.

What Is the Function of External Port Structures?

  • The main purpose of external port structures is to protect the port area from the harsh and destructive effects of the open sea.
  • They prevent coastal sands from advancing toward the port surroundings and the port itself.
  • They also protect the port against physical impacts and help secure entry and exit operations within the port boundaries.

What Is the Function of Internal Port Structures?

Internal port structures include areas behind the berthing line where loading and unloading equipment, cranes, warehouses, passenger halls, and storage areas are located.

The proper planning of these internal port structures is essential. The design of berthing areas in ports is determined according to several factors, including the intended use of the port and the depth of the quay.

Structural Calculations for Ports

Jetty and port construction requires structural design and static calculations to be carried out by experts. Great care must be taken during these studies. Even the smallest overlooked mistake in structural calculations can grow into major problems and lead to serious consequences no one wants.

Jetty and Port Construction

Jetty and port construction has gained importance with the growth of logistics and transportation opportunities. Marine structures are shaped according to their intended use. Jetties and ports are required to enable cargo loading and allow vessels to berth easily for logistics and transport purposes. For this reason, jetty and port construction represents a major part of marine projects.

As a company, we have the experience and fully equipped machinery fleet required to design jetties and ports of any size and width on all types of seabed conditions. After the completion of jetty and port projects, the superstructures of the marine works are constructed. Many marine and port projects completed with pile driving and superstructure construction are delivered to our clients with high quality and durability.

Jetty and Port Construction Projects

Jetty and port construction projects are among the most important marine structures affecting the economic relations of countries and commercial companies within the scope of transportation.

Maritime transport is one of the most profitable and cost-effective transportation systems in the world in terms of cargo volume. With the historical development of ports and jetties, they have become integral parts of international trade and transport systems.

Over time, as cargo volumes and passenger transport diversified, new vessel designs emerged. With the acceleration of technological development and the aging of existing ports, innovative design solutions became necessary. In this context, we design modern jetties and ports that are suitable for present-day requirements.

Pile-Supported Jetty Construction

Marine jetties are among the most important structures in coastal areas. They serve purposes such as restaurants, sunbathing areas, boat berthing zones, and water sports facilities. Pile-supported jetty construction increases the value of coastal areas and facilitates swimming and sunbathing activities.

Our company offers a wide machinery fleet, including a floating pile driving machine. If you are looking for professional support for pile-supported jetty construction, we are one of the fast and cost-effective solution providers.

Steel piles are driven into the seabed in suitable dimensions, and the vertical load-bearing elements of the jetty system are installed. These steel piles are then connected with profiles at the upper level to improve horizontal stability. In this way, the supporting structure for the jetty decking is formed.

Depending on the project requirements, the jetty can also be designed using PVC, timber, or composite materials.

What Are the Details of Pile-Supported Jetty Construction?

Pile-supported jetty construction is carried out under permits issued by the relevant authorities, and several conditions must be met. We would like to share the main requirements with you:

  • The proposed shoreline area must not restrict public access.
  • The shoreline area must not contain sand or shrub vegetation.
  • The site must not be rocky, and the water depth must not increase suddenly.

Unless all relevant legal and technical requirements are met, the necessary permit conditions cannot be satisfied. Therefore, each of these steps must be verified before construction begins.

Why is Pile-Supported Jetty Construction Performed?

Navigational safety and marine safety are essential in pile-supported jetty construction. The structure must not obstruct the use of the area for marine activities. Pile-supported jetty construction, when carried out with due consideration for environmental impact, may be executed without a 1/1,000 scale implementation zoning plan.

The purpose of the jetty should be limited to uses such as swimming access, sunbathing, or water sports.
